Kevin MASSIE
Captain, Maldivian Airlines
After receiving my college degree and studying at University level for a degree in Administration & Humanities at the Royal Military College of Canada in the Canadian Air Force program, I began flight training whilst working as a loadmaster, handling and ramp agent for cargo operator Air Labrador and received my first wings and CPL licence in 1992.
That same year, I began my civilian flying career and then co-founded two aviation businesses for which I flew as Captain for diverse Government contracts and VIP charters. Part of my responsibilities were to help setup flight operations to get the light twin fleet up and running, and saw the number of contracts grow considerably in a very short period of time after introducing a fresh approach to the business. We gained a notorious number of clients by adapting to the market and developing a trustworthy relationship with our clients, but also by offering a better and safer service than our competitors. During that time my experience as a pilot grew vastly and matured very quickly by flying extensively in demanding and skill-required Northern Canadian airfields.
Two years later, I switched from the charter to the airline business. I began Instructing, and despite my young age was named LTC and Chief-Pilot on the turboprop and light twin fleet for Air Canada subsidiary airline Quebec Labrador Aviation. I was soon called by Inter/Canadian Regional to join them as a First-Officer on the ATR fleet to operate on the challenging North-Eastern Quebec operation and then later promoted to SAAB fleet Captain.
I also obtained my JAR licence in 1999 and decided to pursue my career in Europe after meeting my British wife. First for KLM's regional carrier as ATR fleet Captain, 3 years later joined Iberia's growing regional carrier and award winner Air Nostrum via it's parent company Denim Air as DASH8 fleet Captain for 7 years.
In 2007 I was invited by Air Canada to join them for their expanding Embraer 170/190 Jet fleet, and then launched a freelancing career in aviation consultancy and flight operations. This brought me back to Europe, for Iberia and then in Athens for the re-launch of Greece's Olympic Air on the DASH8 fleet. Since 2011, I am contracted by Maldivian Airlines, in South West Asia.
I currently live in France from where I freelance my services in consultancy, management, training or flight operations for established airlines, newly launched or start up projects throughout Europe, Asia or the Middle-East on jets and/or regional turboprops.
