Laurie ESCARAVAGE
Teacher, Association Philotechnique (Paris)
I am passionate about the English language and am eager to share this passion with my students. I have an in-depth knowledge of it and a very good accent and pronunciation. Moreover, I have taken Theatre workshops in English as a hobby and performed on stage, I read English books and magazines to keep my vocabulary up to date and watch movies in English, especially the TV series "Friends", which I never tire of watching and watching... Furthermore, I practise my conversational and writing skills with Anglophones, with whom I exchange my French for their English. I do the same thing as far as German, Spanish and Italian are concerned. I enjoy linguistics and comparing the languages I've been learning with one another. I believe that speaking several languages helps you broaden your outlook and understanding of a specific language, be it English or another language.
14 contactsI teach English to a group of adults as a volunteer for a charity and find it very rewarding. It gives me the opportunity to perfect my pedagogical skills and share my passion for English with an enthusiastic audience. I prepare the classes every week and create worksheets/handouts for my students on a wide variety of topics and vocabulary/grammar items, using many types of resources and aiming to make each lesson coherent and enjoyable. I welcome any suggestions from my students in order to adapt to their needs and I generally manage to find ways to meet their requests. I have good interpersonal skills and take criticism positively, which allows me to develop adaptability as well as creativity. I am patient, a good listener and never judgmental. I intend to become a professional and I'm looking for a position as a teacher/trainer.
I'm currently doing a theatre training designed for English teachers to provide us with tools and ideas and also feedback in order to improve and develop our communicative and pedagogical skills.
2007 - 2008I gave English classes to youngsters and adults, both individually and in small groups. As regards the adults both individually and in small groups, I had to prepare the classes which helped me develop creative skills. As for the youngsters, whom I helped with their homework, I enjoyed explaining to them how English works and can adapt to any pupil or person who needs help with vocabulary or grammar.
