Aujourd'hui, si je veux visionner une vidéo en ligne, je me connecte à un serveur qui me propose la lecture d'un fichier FLV, avec un temps de pré-chargement minimal (quelques secondes), et un débit généralement de l'ordre de 500 kbps. Nous sommes dans un schéma de téléchargement progressif, où la vidéo continue de se charger tandis que je commence à la visionner.
Inconvénient majeur : Je ne peux pas zapper en avant dans la séquence tant que le téléchargement n'est pas complet. Et si la séquence qui m'intéresse se situe à 1'30, j'ai donc téléchargé 90s de film pour rien, soit plus de 5 Méga-octets de données qui ont transité sans raison sur le réseau et j'ai accumulé les volumes de vidéo préchargés pour rien : Un vrai gaspillage !
Cela me rappelle furieusement les vidéo-cassettes ou il fallait avancer au petit bonheur pour trouver la chanson suivante :)
