Thibauld Nion
Research and Development Engineer, Project Team, A2iA
Developing cutting-edge image processing and artificial intelligence software.
Strongly motivated by solving industrial, real-life problems.
A glimpse of my previous realisations:
- conception and delivery of software solutions for the automation of handwritten document processing
- development of automatic tools for topographic measurement for the world #1 steel company
- development of a 3D image manipulation and measurement tool in collaboration with a team of biologist (users of the app)
Software engineering for clients on industrial problems without any pre-existing off-the-shelf solution, and improvement of the internal technologies by consolidating the software solutions thus provided.
- Building ad-hoc production-ready solutions for information extraction projects on dense flows of mail documents and historical archives
- Developping optimized document image analysis algorithms
- Building evaluation and visualization tools
- Designing re-usable software components and processing flows
Main accomplishments:
- Created and managed an internal software project that has since been regularly delivered new tools for evaluating various information extraction solutions with respect to specific industrial needs (opposed sometimes to "academic" measures used in scientific competitions)
- Delivered an incoming mail processing solution to one of the largest mail-processing service provider in the US.
2004 - 2008Study on the interactions between steel sheets' surfaces and their coatings
- Development of mathematical tools for roughness analysis.
- Experimental protocol design, in order to asses the reality of surface-coating interactions
- Implementation of a complete processing flow allowing for measured data to be suitable for fluid dynamics simulations and their validations.
- Analysis of the interactions between the surfaces' coatings and light (3D simulations)
Main accomplishments:
- Constituton of a database for surface-coating analysis whose number of samples and measure precision was unprecedented.
- Delivery of an application (GUI) for easy "shape correction" on 2D topographies used in the "quality & measure" labs of ArcelorMittal
2003 - 2004Building tools to help studying the growth of mice's kidneys.
- Computing statistics on experimental results (in view of publishing an article)
- Image processing (segmentation and 3D skeletization)
- Software development (improving an existing GUI and algorithms)
- Fruitful collaboration with biology researchers (involved in research discution, explaining bits of image analysis and while being taught rudiments of biology)
Main accomplishments:
- Contributed to a research paper published in "Kidney International" (co-author)
- Finalization (correction+polishing) of a dedicated application used by two laboratories at Monash, working on different problematics
- Development of a plug-in for the commercial software Aphelion(TM).
