Welcome in the Airbus A350 cockpit, before it takes off with its pilot J-M Roy who works with the Cockpit System Department. The role of this team is to design the Cockpit of today and tomorrow for the Airbus fleet. They are in charge of the definition, development and support of key critical functions of all Airbus programs’ cockpits. Together they evaluate the scenario, the design,… for the layout and the furnishing. Which means Displays, Flight Warnings, Engine Interface, Fire Detection and Anti-Ice systems - almost everything you can see and touch in a cockpit interior - in order to build THE state-of-the-art cockpit. The Cockpit System team takes benefit from new digital methods such as Virtual Reality and simulation (Optical, lighting). It allows them to accelerate the design process, to faster create cockpit prototypes and to simulate tools to improve the visibility of the pilot, for example. Every year France organises a national collection of plastic bottle caps for charity and Airbus plays its part. The caps are handed over to an association, which sells them on for recycling into plastic pallets. Airbus generally chooses charities that work with the disabled including Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB), the association chosen by Toulouse's 'Mission Handicap' team. One result of the collection is Airbus' participation in guide dog training. Enter Néo. He's a five-month old Labrador puppy in training with GDB. His master is Valérie of the cabin and cargo human factors security team. It's part of her job to socialise the dog. This naturally includes the workplace, so Néo has become an honorary member of Valérie's team. Each day he accompanies her to her office. "Given our sponsorship of GDB this year, it seemed natural to lend a hand to Néo's training," says Mission Handicap leader Laurence. "For everyone who contributed to the bottle cap collection, he's just one example among many of its benefits in the community. Above all, it's another way of demonstrating Airbus' commitment to diversity."
