  • Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies / Knowledge Management & Strategic Purchasing - Methods Engineer

2009 - maintenant I was employed by the Methods & Knowledge Management Department and responsible for the implementation of the usage of the Corporate Engineering Tools. The different tools are mainly aimed at Engineering, Management and Service fields’ applications.

    Responsibilities:
    - Continuously promote the benefits of the Corporate Tools
    - Find specific application for the tools to meet the needs of the different Business Units and develop the tools accordingly
    - Establish action plans and follow-up the progress of the implementation through each Business Unit
    - Train users and create procedures to ensure a good use
    - Create and improve synergy with other worldwide Business Units
    - Create standards of specification sheets for electro-mechanical equipments

It was interesting to find and apply different strategies through the 14 subsidiaries depending on their business specificities. I learnt to mange people by changing their work habits and finding everyday new ideas to convince them. The compromise was to answer the specific needs of people and integrate them into worldwide Corporate Tools. The main skills required were being autonomous, to master waste water treatment process and being persevering and creative.

  • ROS ROCA IMA UK - Waste Technology Engineer

2008 - 2008 I was employed to be technical and commercial support for the new English subsidiary of ROS ROCA. I was sent to the German branch during six months to be close to the engineering staff. I was in charge of the budget bid for British clients for engineering, supply, erection and start-up of biowaste treatment plants (biogas production).

    Responsibilities:
    - Choose the process according to the technical specifications from the clients
    - Design the different equipments
    - Write the technical specifications of the equipments
    - Find new suppliers on the UK market to make the price breakdown of the plants offered
    - Write the technical and the budget offers
    - Estimate the OPEX and CAPEX of the plants
    - Establish a data base of UK standards

It was challenging to be involved in this project to develop a new market. It was also a very good opportunity for a novice Engineer. I replied to 6 bidders for different plant capacities (from 20 ktpa to 80 ktpa of waste) and managed the relationship with a potential English partner. I was in contact with the British clients and suppliers and I developed commercial skills.

  • VINCI Environnement - Process Engineer (intership)

2007 - 2007 In my third year of study in engineering school, I worked in a company specialising in building household waste incinerators. My project consisted in removing the need for process engineers to consult the boiler manufacturers during the factory design phase and developing a tool to design a steam boiler.

    Responsibilities:
    - Establish the stages required to design a steam boiler
    - Update and improve a software package to make it available to all users
    - Implement the developed tool on real current projects

I developed an efficient tool which is easy and fast to operate by the engineers. My knowledge in heat energy and combustion were required. Being autonomous and able to take initiatives were key requirements. I took the opportunity to lead the complete project (formalise users’ needs, design the software, negotiate with computer suppliers and implement the final product on a current project).

  • CEA Saclay / DAPNIA - Engineer (Intership)

2005 - 2005 In my second year of study in engineering school, I supported the Environmental Department of the “Commissariat de l’Energie Atomique” (equivalent to the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority). I had two targets. The first one was to implement the ISO 14 001 standard (Environmental Management) for 12 “I.C.P.E” (Installation Classified for the Protection of the Environment). And the second was to perform and document Environmental Impact and Risk Assessments of 9 I.C.P.E. to authorize operation.

    Responsibilities:
    - Organise meetings with people in charge of the installation to make the inventory
    - Perform the ISO 14 001 standard (planning with actions, person in charge, deadlines, cost…)
    - Implement continuous improvement opportunities
    - Design additional controls from actions resulting from the assessments

I supported the Environmental Department in monitoring compliance with ISO 14 001 standard. It was interesting to manage people in order to bring them to work in a new way. I developed good communication skills and learnt how to deal tactfully with people who had set working habits. It gave me the opportunity to realise the huge importance of the environment in the nuclear field.
