The big ecological tourist city of south Morocco
An outstanding environment, a reputation beyond borders
On the Atlantic coast, in the big Moroccan south, exists a magic bay.
A place of exception where dunes and waves live side by side; sky and sea, man and migratory birds, a contrast of nature which never stops revealing its secrets.
A city of the western Sahara, formerly called Villa Cisneros by the Spanish, and which extends over 40 km along the Atlantic coast, Dakhla is today without doubt, one of the biggest fishing ports in Morocco. Its population swells to double its normal capacity at busy times of the year.
The Rio of Oro Lagoon, one of the most abundant fish areas in the world, invites fish lovers to catch fish of over 60kg and measuring up to two meters!!
Since 2003, the city has welcomed windsurfers and kite surfers from across the world. According to a number of such champions, Dakhla is the most beautiful spot for these sports after Hawaii. Nowadays, there are five schools of nautical sport that welcome more than 7000 sports tourists. For air rally participants in the Toulouse - Saint-Louis race from Senegal which is held every year in October, Dakhla is an inescapable stopover.
On the edge of a magnificent turquoise lagoon, with some of the most spectacular fauna and flora in the world, the Dakhla Bay is recognized as one of the most important grounds for migratory pink flamingos .
Along the coast you can also see dolphins, and rare monk seals which have international protection.
Responsible Tourism
«Tourism is at first a bridge between nations and civilizations, a coming together of human and cultural emotions. Clean and responsible tourism, because it is respectful of humanity, nature, and the environment should lay down the rules that govern the sector. »
His Majesty King Mohammed VI made tourism one of his national priorities with a clear goal: responsible tourism.
By creating the Charter of responsible tourism, Morocco has made a commitment to make tourism an «instrument of peace and international understanding».
His «Vision 2010» plans precise actions and measures allowing tourism to play a full role in the development of the country.
The major principles of the Moroccan Charter of Responsible Tourism:
*Respect for the cleanliness of beaches
*Respect traditions and values of the population
*Respect the wealth of cultural and craft heritage
*Respect for the environment
*Respect for early childhood
Morocco advocates respectful tourism in a vision of sustainable and ethical development; for the past decade, the city of Dakhla has attracted more and more the interest of investors.
A soft and moderate climate throughout the year
The climate of Morocco varies according to its different regions, whether beach or desert: which one to choose?
The four seasons invite you to bask in their delight and the peace of mind they offer.
Situated around thirty kilometres North of the Tropic of Cancer, just as Havana, Canton or Hawaii, Dakhla offers the guarantee of an excellent quality of sunshine the year round.
In autumn, the season where nature is in full transition, nights are longer and temperatures become milder inland. Winter rains have not yet arrived and it always feels good to swim at the sea side.
In winter, on the coast, the climate is mild; in contrast it is cold and wet up in the hills. While some go skiing in the Middle Atlas mountains, others, not far away, are swimming on the coast of South Morocco!
In Dakhla, the water stays around 25°C all year round, an ideal temperature for surfers who come to spend the three winter months here.
While spring is particularly mild and pleasant, summer remains warm in the major part of the Kingdom, whereas temperatures at the coast remain moderate
Morocco offers a moderate climate all year round and in every season. The wealth and variety of the country can be appreciated all year round. Come to take advantage of it!
