To act as an effective support function to allow all departments and subsidiaries of a group to grow stronger in order to maximize profits, both in the short term and the long term

  • Webmart Ltd, Printelligence Network Ltd and W.I.N. Ltd - Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

    2014 - maintenant Webmart Ltd and Printelligence Network Ltd are operating in Print Management. Webmart employs 45 staff in the UK and has current sales of USD 48 M.
    Printelligence is a start-up, offering a software solution for print management – we are currently in the design phase and an international deployment (up to 70 countries) is scheduled for 2016.
    I look after all Finance, HR, Legal, Facility Management and Business Support matters but was recruited to be instrumental in the International deployment of Printelligence.

    5 months ago, we started a £2 million investment fund for helping the print industry. To date, we have invested in a newspaper (Made in Britain Media) as well as in a technology (Documobi) which will take cross media to the next level.
  • Richardson Electronics - European Controller

    2007 - 2013 * oversight of accounting practices and maintenance of fiscal records for our operations in Europe (Finland, Sweden, UK, Germany, Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain and Israel). Responsible for managing the entire finance function and structure that support our European markets. This includes, but is not limited to, managing the day to day responsibilities of my 9 direct reports, performance reviews and merit increases for all finance personnel throughout Europe (29 in 2007), rolling out organizational initiatives (VAT project, Peoplesoft billing and AR implementation), etc. ;
    * Ensure US GAAP/local GAAP reporting and SOX Compliance. ;
    * Staff reduction and cost cutting - creation of Shared Service Center and outsourcing of key Finance tasks (Payroll, VAT reporting, Statutory accounts). ;
    * Repatriation of accounting functions back to the countries following the sale of our RFPD division which represented 50% of Europe' s activity;
  • Marcus Evans Inc. - Chief Financial Officer

    2006 - 2007 ook over the Chicago shared service centre responsible for all financial, HR, Legal, Tax and IT aspects across North America – I reorganized the department following a downsize by half of the Finance function as well as the Production, Marketing and Operation departments – I synchronized the production output with all other departments to minimize inefficiencies.
     Following a managerial split by product line, I reformatted all management reports to follow the new organization structure. Reduced by half the unpaid amounts (amounting to $ 800K) and tightened the Contracts approval process resulting in a threefold reduction of the litigation issues.
  • Marcus Evans (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd. - Chief Financial Officer

    2003 - 2006 * Created a shared service centre responsible for all financial, accounting, HR, legal, tax and IT aspects across the Asia Pacific region as well as Africa (Sydney, Melbourne, New Zealand, Japan, India, Pakistan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Middle East, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and South Africa). I was also involved heavily in the Business development of the region. The role was extremely ``Hands-on'' due to the optimized use of the resources available and the flat structure of the company. Supervised 15 people in KL, 4 in South Africa and one administration staff in 12 offices in the APAC region. ;
    * Monitored profitability of all operations and assisted the CEO and COO with the strategy for development in Asia and Pacific, including starting new operations (Korea, Thailand, Middle East, Manila, Jakarta, Chengdu, Karachi and Delhi, etc.). I also shared the responsibility of the implementation of the strategy with the COO. ;
    * Organized successfully our defense against Taxation departments in Malaysia, New Zealand, Japan and China. ;
  • Marcus Evans Ltd. - European Financial Controller

    2001 - 2002 * Controlled the Financial Departments (headed by local Financial Controllers) of the following countries: Germany, the Netherlands, France, Sweden, Denmark, Spain, Poland, Czech Republic, Monaco & South Africa. I was also heading the finance department of the UK subsidiaries, managing a team of 6 in London and 11 staff across Europe. ;
    * Harmonized all finance departments across Europe, in order to ensure a tight monitoring of their activities and control the accuracy of the ledgers. Improved their processes in order to shorten the delivery time of the miscellaneous periodical financial statements (from 14 days down to 3 days). I developed 5 new monthly management reports, which help pro-active cost control as well as monitor the efficiency of some key departments. ;
    * Reshaped the handling of the sales cycle, purchase cycle, banks relationships, treasury control. System wise, I have improved the setting of the 3 accounting software we used (Sun, exact and Sage) in order to streamline the processing of accounts as well as allowing for development of future management information needs. I was responsible for the set-up of the finance function in 3 of our new operations, which started in April 2001 (Spain, Poland & the Czech Rep.) including recruitment and training of local staff. I also conducted a full reshuffle of Finance in Berlin and Amsterdam.

    MARSEILLE 1998 - 2000 Global Projects, Scala Business Solutions Switzerland -
    * Managed Scala's larger consulting projects ( 500K$) in an international/ multi-cultural / multi-sites environment for global clients : Ericsson, Elf Atochem, Sanofi-Synthelabo, Schneider Electric... ;
    * Strategic, operational & organizational management and review. Needs assessment, Business/process re-engineering, process improvement (best practices), full reprocessing of departments (especially Finance) or whole company. Monitored implementation of financial modules at group level versus local statutory/tax requirement. ;
    * Organization of Finance functions : consolidation of financial and management information, month-end closure procedures, valuation methods for fixed assets, stock, etc. Matched groups needs on a global level (US GAAP mainly) with local statutory/tax requirements. Hyper-inflationary accounting expert, currencies re-valuations... ;
  • Scala Near East - Clients Solution Manager

    1997 - 1998 * Developed Scala's range of Consulting Services throughout the Near-East region (14 countries from Morocco to Syria). I was responsible for 11 consultants (6 different nationalities). I was also involved in Sales, Finance and Administration ;
    * On a daily basis I managed and coordinated the consulting activities, including recruiting & training new consultants/project managers. I organized the support to clients (technical assistance and Hot line) as well as maintained the clients' satisfaction towards Scala's overall services. ;
  • Scala - Project Manager

    MARSEILLE 1996 - 1997 * Financial & Distribution Specialist : consolidation, currency revaluation, US GAAP vs Local GAAP, closing procedures, stock valuation, management reporting... ;
    * Project Manager for small to large projects (managing teams of up to 7 consultants on site). Projects gave me taxation, accounting and business exposure to Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Austria. Among the companies I worked for were Danone, Coca-Cola, Pepsifood, Electrolux, France Telecom, Netia, York, Rhone-Poulenc, Coty, etc. ;
    * Early member of the practice management team for the development of the Scala Implementation Methodology. Certified trainer in the Scala Academy. ;
  • Hoechst Roussel Ltd. - Management Accountant

    1994 - 1995 * I was involved in the merge process with Hoechst (balance sheet forecasts, Profit & Loss estimations, evaluation of both companies (goodwill), scenarios of new organizations' structures, business plans etc). ;
    * Re-organized the reporting and budgeting process (for sales, marketing, distribution, medical, research, development and general overheads departments), including capital expenditure forecasting, multiple cross-functions management reports, misc. reconciliation with financial accounting... ;
    * Conducted a full Process Re-engineering of the Development and Medical Department and introduced new software (time/project tracking in particular). ;
