BALTIMORE

COMMERCIAL ENGINEER in SWITZERLAND

DIFFERENT INDUSTRIAL AND COMMERCIAL PROJECTS

From 11/2009 to 02/2011
(15 months)

ENVIRONMENT

Company’s activity
COIL – COOLING TOWERS – CONDENSERS – HEAT EXCHANGERS – WATER TREATMENT MANUFACTURER.

Location
GENEVA AND FRENCH PART OF SWITZERLAND.

Department
COMMERCIAL.

People in the Team
ALONE, I WAS WORKING FOR AN AREA IN HOME OFFICE.

CONSULTANT’S PROJECT

Project Description The representation of this company in Switzerland was done by 2 freelance commercial engineers. The man who was in the French part was old enough to be retired and then BAC wanted to replace him by a salaried engineer.
As I was working during several years before in the French part of Switzerland, I had a well knowledge about customers, installers in that area.
BAC chooses me to represent the brand and then to sold materials, spare parts, after sale services to all these customers. A cooling tower company is specialized in HVAC systems because you must have a special knowledge about air conditioning installations, water treatment, whatever.
Moreover, I had to learn to work with a new calculating program (S2Q) and treatment processing water.
My mission was to sell most of units and most of materials (including water systems and spare parts). I had to sold about 1 Billion of € each year to this customers and installers.

Objectives
 Sell about 700’000 € of new cooling tower.

 Sell about 200’000 € of new water treatment systems.

 Sell about 100’000 € of spare parts and after sale services jobs.

 That was obviously for each year.
Assigned Tasks
 Calculate thanks to the program systems (S2Q) for every customer.

 Try to obtain the order because I had some competitor companies in front of me trying to do the same like Evapco, Jacir, Jaëggi...

 Try to sell electromagnetic water treatment in the place of classical chemical water treatment (even if it was more expensive). BAC was the only manufacturer to propose this kind of equipment.

 Write and present every offer to the customers and find some new customers in the same time. So I was working in home office spending 2 days at home (administrative job) and 3 days abroad to visit customer and present my job.

Responsibilities
I was working with 2 different directions, 1 in Paris for the commercial part and 1 in Belgium for the technical part if necessary.
Realize my sales target each year with a maximum profit for the company.
Check that the job was well done for the after sale services and the installation of the new cooling towers.
Be in the closest of my customers to bring them the best service and the brand image of BAC.
Show them that we were the N°1 in the world (that was true) not accidently but because of the quality of our products.

Achievements
 Exceed my commercial budget every year.

 Do my job as the best as I can to obtain the satisfaction of my customers.

 Pursue my sells year after year to stay the N°1 in Switzerland also.
Others
Requirements and answer them if they had some more questions.
Unfortunately after 15 months (and even if my sells were good) the American main direction decided that 1 engineer was enough for this country (Switzerland is not very large and I was not speaking German).
End of my mission, they decided to keep the other engineer because he was speaking 3 languages.

TECHNICAL ENVIRONMENT

Tools used
Computers, technical diagrams, calculation tables, provider technical sheets, international calculation tables (from S.I system to English Units).
Using a special program (Honeywell) for the automatons.
S2Q Software only used by BAC to calculate our cooling tower sizes and performances.

Methodologies
Using the way to work of the company and my personal methodology.

Others
Capable to adapt to any requests.

CONSULTANT’S PROJECT

Project Description MAINTAIR is a company which only propose afters sales services on HVAC installations (medium one) and just have few new HVAC installations to do each year.
I was employed as a HVAC engineer and we were two persons working in the studying office.
I had to design and calculate technical HVAC installations but most of the time I had to write some maintenance contracts. My job was not so interesting and I put 2 years to leave that firm. I did a mistake by accepting this job but the owner of the company didn’t present me the job in the same way. He lied me speaking about his company as one of the most famous in Geneva.
There were no drawing man (I had to do my plans alone), few technicians in HVAC most of them were mechanical technicians.
In fact, I learned after signing the contract that the owner only wanted to not stay alone, loosing many contracts and customers because the company was poor in technicians with some good knowledge, there were many turn over, and that is the reason why I say that I took 2 years to leave them but it was the beginning of the economic crisis and it started harder and harder to find some good jobs in Switzerland specially in Geneva.
Well, I had also some installation to design, I had to draw all my plans, to do all my calculations alone and on the other side it was a good lesson for me to fend for myself.
Fortunately there were not too many new jobs and we were doing our reputation with the after sales services department.

Objectives
 Doing all the technical calculations for the few new installations done.

 Achieve the turnover sales for the company (including the after sales) about 2 billions of € per year.

 Maintain the turnover sales and show to the customers that this company had a very good knowledge and safety choices.

 Show that I was able to do all the kind of calculations (HVAC, refrigeration systems, frozen systems, ventilation, electricity applied to that kind of installations, automation...).

 Show that I had the capacity to do many kind of technical calculations on different systems.

 Commercial work to find new customers in order to increase the turnover sales of the company.

Achievements
 Exceed my commercial and technical budgets every year and follow every job done.

 Do my job as the best as I can to obtain the satisfaction of my customers.

 Pursue my sells year after year to make this company better and better.

 All the different calculations using technical data sheets and diagrams because we were only two engineers having their own construction sites.

 Test all our installations and make sure that they were running well.
Responsibilities I was the responsible of the studying office and i had to take care about the timesheet of the technicians too.
I had to do monthly some reports to the direction; most of the time I was subdued to do all that job.
