Nicolas Marchal
Offshore Project Manager, Bureau Veritas
With an engineer’s degree (majoring in Mechanics) achieved in Ecole Centrale Marseille, I have developed strong technical skills and gained experience in offshore projects.
I have been managing several offshore projects since 1year now.
I have been working in BV KPO (Korea) during 3 months and I have seconded STX France and Technip engineers for Egina FPSO (TOTAL). I have been in charge of high level calculations for MAERSK and the assimilation of these methodologies.
I have developed my interpersonal skills through the collaboration with Research department, the coordination of a junior engineer and the successful coordination of tight deadline analyses.
Professional Experience
April 2007 – Present Project engineer
Bureau Veritas Head Office, Paris – Marine Division, Sales & Marketing Management
Structural analyses concerning the strength, buckling and fatigue of FPSO (Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading) Units.
The projects and work I have been involved with include:
- SHELL Prelude gFLNG which involved the technical and commercial follow-up of the project.
- TOTAL Girassol: Deck structural assessment following topsides addition.
- WOODSIDE Cossack Pioneer which involved the carrying out of topsides fatigue analyses using Bureau Veritas’ ship structure assessment tool VeriSTAR Hull.
- MAERSK Peregrino which involved:
o Strength assessment (Yielding and Buckling verification) performed with CSR Rules
o Topsides fatigue analyses (Restraint blocks) involving solid modeling with FEMAP/NX Nastran
- MURPHY Azurite which involved deterministic fatigue analyses.
- MAERSK North Sea Producer which involved:
o Spectral Fatigue analysis performed with a new hydro-structure coupling software (Marge). This work involved the coordination of a junior engineer.
o Crack propagation analyses performed with Saphirs.
- Participation in the development of a methodology for hydro-structure coupling software (Marge).
- Participation in the development of a methodology for Crack Propagation analyses.
- TOTAL Egina: Training of clients (STX, Technip) in the use of the VeriSTAR Hull software, technical support to Technip office (2 months secondment in Paris) and STX France Office (2 months secondment in St Nazaire). The work involved constant contact with clients’ engineers, technical skills and time management to finish the project within the scheduled deadline.
- Technical support to BV Pusan (Korean Plan Approval Office) involving a 3 month secondment to the Pusan office. The work involved delivering VeriSTAR Owner databases and communication with KPO engineers.
- SBM Okha which involved the coordination of a tight deadline analysis of spectral fatigue analysis on Topsides supports (36 feet).
- ENI Xicomba which involved strength and buckling analyses using Femap/VeriSTAR Hull 5.
