The digitalisation of production processes has ceased to be an option and become a necessity. "It is essential that the operators embark on the path towards digitalisation", says María, from the Digital Transformation Office. Her goal is to incorporate digitalisation at the production plants of all the Airbus divisions. With this aim in mind she is gathering information on the digitalisation status of all these facilities. But conclusions are not drawn only from studies and reports. María decided to don a set of overalls and live the day-to-day shopfloor experience as a worker at Getafe Plant. She spent a week there working with the operators. "You don't really understand what their work is all about until you put yourself in their position". On completion of her stay, María and her team, along with the other organisations involved, will develop and define a strategy for the launching of new digitalisation initiatives for the plants. "The digitalisation of the shopfloor is undoubtedly a key factor capable of providing important improvements in relation to quality, efficiency, costs and the product", she concludes. Today, meet Sara. Recruited at Airbus a few weeks ago, she is not a novice in the aeronautical world. From Spain and only 26 years old, she has been immersed in this environment for several years. She started her studies in Valencia with a Bachelor’s degree and a two-year Master’s in Aeronautical Engineering, as well as studying for a year at the Supaero’ University. Sara never came back to Spain: “There are plenty of job opportunities in Toulouse and it’s a very dynamic city with a multicultural atmosphere. You also have the mountains and the sea, less than an hour away, what more could you ask for?” What also pushed her to settle in the pink city, is her dream to join Airbus: “I think that for anyone studying aeronautics or aerospace, it’s THE reference.” In May, Sara applied for a job at Airbus. After going through a series of interviews, she joined the PWP & NCF Design & Authoring Team as a Technical Data Engineer. “My team welcomed me very well, I felt well integrated and supported”, she said. She also appreciates her colleagues' open-mindset: “Different opinions are always valued, so it’s good to say what you really think”. It is before she boarded for her next business trip, that we met Marie-Frederique, also called “our problem solver” or “our best advocate” by her customers. M-F is part of the team in charge of the Pacific region. Her job mixes so many different challenges and activities and depends on her customers’ needs and demands. One day she solves an aircraft delivery issue, the day after, she works on an A380 reconfiguration, and the following week she organizes the visit of a pilot in an Airbus FAL while promoting Airbus’ aircraft family. M-F doesn’t know what we call “the routine”: “As every airline has different needs, I never get bored”. If you haven't guessed it yet, M-F is a Sales Director at Airbus, which means she is selling aircraft, but not only: “As this job is very diverse, it enriches me at all levels and I learn every day”. What she prefers is the feeling she gets when she sells an aircraft: “It’s all about passion: we put so much heart and energy into what we do, that the adrenaline feel is phenomenal. I am lucky to be surrounded by incredible teams who help me sell one of the most exciting and technologically advanced product available today.” Want to start a new and exciting adventure? For Marion, working at Airbus has always been an obviousness: “the aircrafts, helicopters or even satellites, all these products always fascinated me.” She joined Airbus 7 years ago, after finishing the University. She began with a VIE at Airbus Helicopters in Canada and then, she never left the company. After several internal mobilities, she started, one year ago, to work as a Sales Contracts Negotiator in Toulouse. This job is organized by geographical zones. Marion is part of the team managing the Europe, Africa, and Pacific zones, which means she is often travelling. Her last 3 destinations? Fiji, Oslo and Stockholm. As Sales Contract Negotiator, your main mission is to endorse the contractual responsibility of the company in front of customers. She explained: “Facing customer is challenging, it is about finding the right solutions for your customers businesswise while assessing and measuring the risks and the exposure for your company”. To draw up the sales contracts, an internal coordination work is needed. “Sensing the various situations and the people you are working with is key to find solutions which work for both the company and the customer”, she stated. The Agile methodology and mindset has gradually found its place in many companies, including Airbus. By focusing on customer collaboration, individuals interactions, responding to changes and working software, the Agile methodology makes continuous improvement and innovations possible; adding value to the business. “At Airbus Helicopters we plan to put in place a new Operating Model that will require changes in mindset and adapt ways of working. In order to deliver expected outcomes, we want to make Agile real” said W. Swinnen, HO Governance Office IM. In fact, the Agile method allows the companies to adapt and succeed rapidly in an evolving environment. “To be able to seize new opportunities, adapt to new trends, limit the risk of going down the wrong road and be more reactive, the adoption of this method is the way to go”, he stated. It is therefore a powerful method to accelerate the digital transformation of Airbus Helicopters and lower the barrier for people to innovate. If you have a first successful experience as an Agile Coach, if the wording “scrum master”, “SAFe” or “human interaction” have no secret for you, and if you are interested to accompany Airbus Helicopters to accelerate the Agile transition, join us! https://lnkd.in/gTVZ5hk

It’s in July 2017 that Airbus China Innovation Centre (ACIC) was established in Shenzhen. Progressing for almost a year, the objective now is to grow the team. The organisation’s goals determined by Gang Luo, CEO of ACIC, are to develop a hardware lab that uses the unique eco-system in Shenzhen to design parts quickly and at low cost. In ACIC, they also aim to improve the passenger experience through new business models and new hardware including consumer electronics, virtual reality and augmented reality. To achieve these goals, people are needed to deliver the first wave of projects. The approach of the people they need is really important. Candidates’ profiles need to be tech savvy, but they also have to work fast and be very commercially minded. Indeed, they aim to get results quickly and that means making savings or generating value around three years after having an idea. Sharing the 'can do' attitude of Shenzhen is absolutely essential too. Anybody who feels that they have those attributes and wants to test themselves in an exciting but challenging environment should apply! http://company.airbus.com/careers/jobs-and-applications/search-for-vacancies.html?cuiparameter=RlJFRVRFWFQ9QWlyYnVzK0NoaW5hK0lubm92YXRpb24rQ2VudHJl&queryStr=Airbus+China+Innovation+Centre&sbid=1

It is in one of the many espresso bars of Nanshan in Shenzhen that we met Etienne, a manager and leader at Airbus CTO. It’s been six months now that he has left France with his family to come to China. After 12 years of career at Airbus across Europe, the opportunity to join the Airbus China Innovation Center (ACIC) in Shenzhen was offered to him. His choice was motivated by his passion for China: “It is in 2000 that I visited China for the first time. I have been fascinated by the speed at which the country had evolved. It makes me very confident about China’s future.” Optimism and technology ubiquity were his first impressions: “Everyone has a can-do attitude and technology is everywhere making life really easy.” ACIC has the same spirit as the Airbus Innovation Center in Silicon Valley A^3. “We want to innovate by leveraging local strengths contributing to the strategic areas of the company,” said Etienne. To make it possible, they meet potential Chinese partners that are at the forefront of their fields. Currently the focus of the team in on Business Development in particular to investigate which technologies could be integrated onto Airbus platforms. Interested to live a new adventure? On Thursday, May 17th, all the Airbus ProtoSpace facilities (Bangalore, Filton, Getafe, Hamburg, Mobile, Toulouse and Saint Nazaire) opened their doors to employees throughout the morning. ProtoSpaces are collaborative spaces and prototyping labs organized in a global network where employees can find an inspiring environment and prototyping capabilities to accelerate the evaluation of new ideas based on these three pillars: agility, technology, prototyping. On the same day, the ProtoSpace in Toulouse celebrated the official launch of AIR², the first physical lab for Artificial Intelligence. This is an area where employees can experiment and produce Artificial Intelligence (AI) based solution prototypes. The aim? Become a network of labs to better share AI within the group. During this Opening Day, there were a full set of demos coming from various sectors and divisions (CTO, DTO, Engineering, AIRBUS Defense & Space, etc.). These illustrated many AI based application domains such as natural language processing, computer vision, text extraction, and many more. Are you interested in working with this kind of facilities?
