    PARIS 2010 - 2013 Based at the European headquarters of Apple, responsible for driving and coordinating the efforts of the local teams in selected countries of Europe, Middle East, India and Africa (EMEIA) to develop the content ecosystem that will make the iOS platform (iPad, iPod, iPhone) relevant and useful to the Education markets.
    Annual revenue of the Education business in EMEIA: $1.2B.
    Reporting to the Director of Mobility and Content for the Education Markets in EMEIA.
    Responsibilities and achievements:
    - Driving to iTunes (Apple’s content distribution platform) learning content from universities, research institutes, cultural organizations, school districts and ministries of Education. Highlight iTunes U sites: UNESCO, Portuguese Ministry of Education, CERN, CNDP (France), 6 Turkish institutions at the launch of the service in the country.
    - Driving to iTunes commercial content in the form of interactive applications or multitouch electronic books from educational publishers and developers. Representative content providers: Hachette, Hatier, Nathan, Belin, EduPad (France), Mondadori, Zanichelli, Giunti (Italy), Santillana (Spain), Eksen (Turkey).
    - Driving the adoption of iOS development and teaching by the universities in EMEIA. Responsible for bridging universities and local industry (mainly publishers and mobile telephony carriers).
    - Driving strategic deployments and developing them as “lighthouses” from the customer base, where the Apple platforms are used in innovative ways that enhance teaching and learning.

    - Defining the value proposition of the Apple solutions as well as the corresponding marketing programs for the Research markets in EMEIA. Managing a marketing budget of $300k per annum. Achieved a 15% YoY revenue growth rate and a Return On Investment of x15 in terms of incremental revenue.
    - Organising and acting as a presenter at the relevant executive briefings or “leadership events” and supporting directly key accounts interacting with their top management.
    - Driving the creation of “success stories” of innovative uses of the Apple products and services by the customers in the Research Markets in EMEIA.
  • CERN - Phycisist / Software engineer at the IT Department

    Geneva 23 2002 - 2008 Project manager and lead software developer for data handling, analysis and persistency frameworks for the needs of the experiments of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, the world’s leading international laboratory for Particle and Nuclear Physics research.
    Responsibilities and achievements:
    - Project management of the development of the Common Relational Abstraction Layer (CORAL) software framework, allowing the accessing of data of different types of relational databases in a world-wide computing grid, from the analysis software of the researchers. Led the project from inception to delivery of a fully functional system and deployed the framework for usage by more than 4000 scientists and 3 different platforms (Linux, Windows, Mac OS X). Developed all the plugin libraries related to accessing Oracle databases.
    - Project manager for joint development projects between CERN and collaborating institutes from India such as RRCAT and BARC. Led the project for the development of Python-based components on the persistency framework.
    - Release coordinator of the Persistency software framework (POOL) of the LHC computing grid. Ensured the timely software releases of the framework during 4 years. Implemented the quality assurance and testing procedures of the framework aligning them with the use cases defined together with the users (the researchers of the LHC experiments).
    - Official presenter and formal guide supporting the CERN’s Visits Service.
  • CERN - Fellow Physicist at the EP department

    Geneva 23 2000 - 2002 Research physicist working on the data acquisition system of the HARP fixed-target experiment, as well its off-line software framework (event reconstruction and data analysis tools).
    Main responsibilities undertaken:
    - Τhe interface between the international collaboration of the experiment and CERN’s central services for the IT infrastructure.
    - Τhe development of the data handling components (real-time recording, storage and availability to off-line analysis) of the experiment’s data acquisition system and off-line software analysis framework.
    - Being member of various expert groups at CERN studying the scenarios for new particle beam lines and accelerators.
  • CERN - CERN Doctoral Student

    Geneva 23 1997 - 2000 Special scholarship offered by CERN to perform my PhD research work at the premises of the laboratory.
    The research work included:
    - Τhe simulation of new experiments and beam lines for neutrino physics.
    - Τhe development of fully automatic microscopes to scan photographic emulsions used at neutrino experiments.
    - Τhe beta-testing of hardware and software solutions provided by industrial partners in the area of digital signal capturing and processing, automation control and optics.
