    2012 - maintenant As a research associate at Imperial College of London, my goal is to characterize the mechanism of action of some identified microbiota metabolites correlated to diabetes, obesity or cardiovascular diseases on host metabolism.
    The first part of my project consist on finding metabolites associated with pathology by analysing urine or plasma by NMR. The metabolites are then screened against potent targets and their effects are validated in cell culture and then in vivo.
    This original approach lead me to identify a gut microbial metabolite associated with insulin production pattern. This metabolite is a specific kinase inhibitor able to modulate low-grade inflammation induced by LPS and could play a role in homeostasis regulation by gut microbiota. These results are in process for publication and will also be presented at the American Diabetes Association’s 74th Scientific Sessions in June 2014.

    2009 - 2012 As a PhD student in the French medical research institute (INSERM), I was responsible for leading and performing my own research project, which dealt with molecular mechanisms of glucose output and their potential role in diseases like diabetes and obesity (Identification and characterisation of a vesicular glucose release pathway). In this three-year project, my duties were to determine and use the best ways to answer to this project funded by a grant of the French Ministry of Research. This funding was obtained after a competitive examination in which I was ranked 11th out of 34 participants. This project was multidisciplinary and combined different approaches like molecular cell, biochemistry, cell culture, microscopy and physiology. Finally, my results were presented in several internal seminars and international congresses on diabetes (EASD and SFD), and the results will be submit to an international journal. During this thesis, I developped collaborations with other teams like Serge Manie's team in Lyon (France), Alain Van Dorsselaer's team in Strasbourg (France) and Bernard Thorens' team in Lausanne (Switzerland).
