Loic ORTOLA

LYON

En résumé

My name is Loïc Ortola.
I am passionate about Java, Android, and Frontend technologies, working as the lead software engineer of DesignMyApp in Paris.

"The best way to learn? Teach."
Frank Oppenheimer

Over a year ago, I was offered the opportunity to become a trainer and a teacher, on top of my usual obligations, in either French or English.
Topics around either Java, Android, modern webdesign (AngularJS, Yeoman, Grunt/Gulp, Bower...), Git, or Agile methodologies.
I can only begin to realize what a rare chance it is, and how much I learned through it.

DesignMyApp (http://concept.designmyapp.mobi ) is partially funded by a european consortium project called Future Internet Content. It is very exciting since we just released our SDK last month!

Therefore, leading the development team is now only a part of the job, and you may have more chances to meet me everywhere but in France.
We will attend the CAPS 2014, ECFI 2, NEM 2014 and CEBIT 2015 shows, let's talk there!

Enjoy your visit,

Loic Ortola

Their best known product is Esprit
I started my 1-year internship in Camarillo California (Los angeles area) in July 2011

I was in charge of developing new modules for the EspritWeb platform (Cloud File manager / IT Administration tools) using ASP and SQL

I was in charge of the company's backup system renewal, from scratch (quotes, design, test, setup) using tape drives and NAS servers. It also involved Powershell scripting to send automated report emails after every nightly backup.

I was also handling system and network administration issues, to deliver high availability for both front and back office applications (Web servers, File servers, IP phones) using Microsoft Hyper-V based virtual servers
  • Tennessee International Partnership Services - France Coordinator

2010 - 2012 TIPS is an organization allowing international students from all over the world to come in the US for a summer, to experience the culture, and live like everyone else on american soil.
The project's directors are working the whole year to get positions and job offers from local businesses, and each coordinator is responsible for recruiting students in Europe (Russia, Romania, Ukraine and now France), and assign them to a job matching their english skills and their preference.

That program didn't exist in France. I had a chance to meet the program's founder in 2009. We started working on widening the project to France, and just successfully finished our first edition.

I am the France Coordinator, handling and helping every student to get through the recruitment and visa obtention process, but also handling interviews and providing direct assistance for the first 3 weeks on american soil (SSO, Job interviews, housing...)

To talk numbers, last edition had about 300 students (a $ 400 000 budget) participating to that program, including 27 french. I want to help that organization for one more year, hopefully to be able to train another student that could carry on after my graduation.
  • SmartHome - Product owner

2009 - 2010 Campus Creation is a regional Company Creation contest for students.
I was leading a team on a project called SmartHome, binding new technologies such as tablets and smartphones with home automation.
Our team went up to the semi finals of the contest, and decided not to follow up with the project.

In July 2013, Toshiba announces a new home automation solution (Pluzzy) amazingly close to our business model, therefore confirming that our vision of today's market was accurate.

The purpose of that organization is to promote art, especially music, and to put together all the means necessary (both hardware and human) to achieve that goal.
This project is very important for me and it is very rewarding to see how it has grown since it has begun!

Here is how I would summarize my responsibilities:
-Responsible for artistic events's organization: Logistics rental / Ressources / Truss and stage building direction
