Le Chesnay 2013 - 2016 My PhD title is "SLA aware Cloud autoscaling for optimizing energy footprint". My work is a part of ongoing French national project named EPOC (Energy proportional opportunistic computing). The work is solely funded by CominLabs (laboratoire d'excellence).
I have investigated, how cloud application can be made to green energy adaptive in a self-adaptive manner by gracefully downgrade the user experience, due to the intermittency of green energy sources. While traditional practices only focus on Infrastructure (IaaS) layer either to reduce energy consumption or to modify energy consumption pattern, my work proves that, SaaS application can be involved in reducing and optimizing traditional energy while keeping traditional QoS far better without requiring additional infrastructure resources. A real cloud application, i.e., RUBiS (ebay like prototype), Openstack as cloud management platform and famous testbed (Grid'5000) was used to validate the result.

2011 - 2013 My masters research work can be described in few words as follows:

Rapid growth of the IT industry has led to significant energy consumption in the last
decade. Data centers swallow an enormous amount of electrical energy and have high
operating costs and carbon dioxide excretions. In response to this, the dynamic consolidation of virtual
machines (VMs) allows for efficient resource management and reduces power consumption through the live
migration of VMs in the hosts. In the thesis, I propose a heuristic based resource
allocation of VM selection and a VM allocation approach that aims to minimize the total
energy consumption and operating costs while meeting the client-level SLA. Experiment was conducted in
CloudSim and results demonstrated significant enhancements in cloud providers' profit and energy savings
while improving the SLA at a certain level.
